Hidden Forbidden Reject
For whatever reason, this Field was never completed and was rejected from the main servers. There is a massive forest here that opens up to a dock overlooking a great lake. From the dock is an arched pole with glowing streamers to illuminate the dock in an otherwise fairly dark Field. What is odd about this place is the light rain. The rain's graphic quality was never completed, so is highly pixelated and blocky and briefly gives the same effect to whatever it touches.

At the edge of the dock, underneath the digital rain that fell from the dark skies above, sits a single individual whose ragged appearance conflicts with the serene and kept scenery around their person. The individual's legs dangle over the water like pendulums as eyes are turned downward to observe the reflection within the water. The field is silent, albeit the noise the incomplete rain made as it crashed from the skybox into the environment beneath of it. If time could speak, what would it say of the truth about how long the one who sat at the end of the dock has been there? Minutes? Days? Hours? Months? Years? Or would it say that, within [The World], that the concept of time is relative and does not conform to that which has come to be common knowledge outside of it? Perhaps it is better left unspoken for, for better or for worse.

A shifting of gold birthed an innocuous figure into the field, dull breath drawn ragged into tattered lungs. Walking slowly, he eased in beside his old companion. An arc of his hand, turned from the elbow, was his only signal of recognition as he took a seat next to his friend.
The pixel rain obscured their faces in sporadic bursts, his eye lazily drifting to the corner of its socket, alighting on Lopper's face as his feet licked at the surface of the water, rope sandals sending gentle ripples outwards.
Times have changed, and yet...

Yellow eyes that once had been cast upon the water beneath her look over to the company in which she now has. Surprise was not an emotion in which she wears upon her countenance in that moment nor is there any hint of shock. Instead, upon her lips, there is a warm inviting smile. Wordless, as if to not disturb the sullen silence, those smiling lips quiver for a brief moment before fading away into an expressionless line. Without hesitation, the pink-haired female shifts her weight in place to lean her body against the man who had graced her with his company. One of her temples finds its home upon his shoulder, those tired eyes shutting softly behind eyelids.

Shifting a little to allow the girl's cranium a more inviting purchase, the gentle snug of her skull into his flesh, and he reached up to gently trail a streak of soggy pink out of her face. He smiled, a tiny amused look to mirror Lopper's own expression.
"You're gonna catch cold."
He knew they wouldn't, invulnerable to all aspects of the field except the emotional. He tugged at the wrap around his thin frame, coughing in a sudden jarring way that interrupted the momentary cozy feeling. As it dispelled, he looked sheepish and sarcastically smiled with his eyes.
"Don't say it."

Lips part in order to speak her piece but the the other's words halt what would be said. Without a reaction, those same lips slowly shut once more keeping words and secrets rightfully within her throat. A nuzzling head buries itself proper into the space in which Ketha'al provides to her, a shuddering breath exhaling as relief and emotion begin to work over the composure in which the female possessed. Perhaps it is better to not speak, to not release all of the festering awfulness within her. Even if she is to speak, where would it be that she would begin? So much tragedy, so much loss, and so much regret.

Seeming to sense the tense feelings locked inside his friend, Keth leaned into Lopper, resting his head against hers with a gentle pressure.
"You can say it. Sorry, I wasn't meaning to shut you out."
With his words, an arm wrapped around Lopper's shoulder and pulled her into him. His eyes drifted aside, across the water and into the blackness. The cold was starting to bite into his toes, and he pulled them up, awkwardly holding them aloft and refusing to change position for fear of making the situation awkward. The rain continued languidly, Keth now soaked completely, rivulets of condensed sky creating miniscule streams down his face.

Lopper is pulled into his person, another shuddered breath is released from her person in that moment. It is funny, she thought, how everything seems to be falling apart in that moment when she had went on every moment before this one without these threatening emotions inside of her. Or had she? Lingering within [The World], lost in the same fragmented memories that linger in the corners of her yellow eyes, had she truly ever dealt with any of it? The swinging legs ceased and her form felt limp in the man's grasp, as if all of the energy and all of the life began to slowly leave her person. Slowly did those eyelids part, sight returning once more to the reflection in the water below. The burning sensation in her nostrils and in her eyes, the rapid beating of her digital heart, slowly begins to overwhelm her. Could Ketha'al see the hurt in her features? Could he feel it on her body? Could he hear it in her words?
"Where had you gone?"

Keth sat there for a long moment, his grip slacking. His hands shifted to his sides, palms flat on the little wharf's planks, fingers pointing backwards as he leaned back and looked skyward. It was a good minute before he spoke, choosing his words carefully.
"It didn't have anything to do with you... Or, rather, it wasn't because of you. Things happen, as you're well aware, and time outside isn't always as static or kind as this dead space."
He looked sheepish again, knowing it was a lame explanation of his behaviour and that he gave no real reason for his departure. It was too much for right now, and he wasn't about to crush Lopper just to have an outlet for his own feelings.
He'd done enough of that already, he knew. So he stayed silent and waited for her to open up to him... He knew, he owed her that much.

Lopper remains still, almost catatonic, as if she did not have the energy or the capacity to do more than exist in that very moment. A long period of silence overwhelms her, after Ketha'al had shared his riddle. "...Do you remember, when we met?" Lopper asks suddenly in a weak voice, fingertips shaking from the overwhelming amount of emotion that flows through her in that very moment. Those yellow eyes, all of the while, stare unblinking into the reflection the water cast back up to her of the two of them sitting underneath the darkness and the rain.

"Barely."
Left unspoken were the honest words of how he felt or what he did remember of their original meeting. He let the silence do his talking for those heavier words.
"As I remember it, you were cramping my style. As a matter of fact, I don't think that has ever changed, nor is it likely to."
As he spoke he eased somewhat, tilting his head down to share Lopper's perspective. The next words were cautious, careful. A hopeful look lit his deep eyes, if only for a moment.
"Do you...? Remember, that is?"

Lopper's lips twist in amusement at the other's jab at such a sentimental and meaningful reunion such as this. It is true, proven once more, that some things truly do not change. The amusement on her lips fades into something absent, something hollow, much like the emptiness that her deadened eyes possessed. "I remember enough," she whispers over the sound of the rain just loud enough for Ketha'al to hear. "I wanted you to notice me, I wanted you to protect me, I wanted..." Her words drift off, as if her mind has taken her somewhere else where words felt futile. With a mouth slightly open, her tongue moves across her lips as she attempts to reconfigure herself. "...Are you really here with me, Ketha'al?" A pause. "Is this truly real?"

"It's not, no. But I am here."
The words Lopper spoke were like an anvil to the chest. He breathed raggedly, the sputtering of hard substance echoing in his deep cough. It continued for a few moments, and Ketha'al was glad that the sodden atmosphere gave some much-needed misdirection.
"It's as real as anything I've ever been through, though."
Keth became quiet, a worried look playing across his countenance, developing into a sigh of intense guilt.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you. I know, I couldn't keep my promise."

Lopper slowly picks her body up and off of Ketha'al, in a reanimating way. Her eyes remain forward for a brief moment longer before the distress and pained face turn to look at Ketha'al proper for the first time during their exchange. A weak and shaking hand slowly moves itself up, towards the male across from her to place itself upon his face. It is as if it is her attempt to verify that his words are true, that he is truly there, and that this is not some fragment [The World] conjured up of its own freewill. The moment that Lopper realizes that this is not an apparition, that it is Ketha'al, it shows through the tears that flow from her eyes. "I was so afraid..." Lopper shakes her head, attempting to maintain what little composure she has left. "I was so afraid that I would never see you again, I..."

Feeling the touch on his face, Keth's eyes met Lopper's, a wealth of old feelings threatening to break through his walls. Before that happened, though, he looked down and raised a hand to cup the girl's. Fingers entwining, he squeezed to emphasize the reality of his presence.
"Yeah."
It was an empty statement, one that failed to acknowledge the weight of her statement. How could he say anything to that, having failed so grossly? He smiled wistfully, a void of discomfiture threatening to engulf them both.
"And now?"
It was a precarious question, one he wasn't sure that he should have asked.

Lopper is wordless for some time, as if the other's inquiry left her unsure of how to respond. Those yellow eyes, gleaming from the tears that continue to swell within them, search Ketha'al's face for the answer he is looking for. "...You know me," Lopper speaks with a weak scoff and a failed attempt at appearing casual and much like her old self. "...Plans have...never really been my thing." Lopper attempts to force a smile onto her face, as if to bring Ketha'al reassurance in that moment.

Keth laughed, a jarred, strangled thing devoid of all but the most bleak humor.
"On that, we can agree."
He went silent then, the struggling warmth that Lopper had attempted to infuse him with taking root and blossoming, cracking his shell enough to let him leak out.
He grasped her hand then, pulling it towards his lips and kissing her index and middle fingertips. Then, staggering under his own awkwardness, he let her hand drop and stared blankly into the water, hastily covering the embers which still glowed.
"You know me, too... Thanks for..."
He sighed as his strangled words died in his throat, making his skin prickle. He spoke it again, now without an open end, to regain his composure. He still did not look back at her, though.
"Thanks."

Lopper's expression lights up when Ketha'al's lips meet her fingers, a look of disbelief and surprise overwhelming her once pained look. In a dazed way, she brings her fingers close to her face as if to examine them. While the other stumbles on his words and attempts to find composure once more, Lopper unconsciously brings the fingers across her own lips as longing eyes find their way back upon Ketha'al once more. Those lips that so desperately tried to manage a smile all that time then formed one effortlessly. "It is of no consequence," she says in a reassuring way before yellow eyes then dart to the side. "No, that is not something that I would say in a moment such as this. I would say..." Lopper appears confused, as if unsure of the words that sprang from her lips then. It did not feel right to her, for one reason or another. Did it sound too mature?

A shift in the wind, blowing out from the shadowed trees cut through them then, damp clothes and locks shifting in the breeze. Keth shivered unconsciously, tugging at the strap on his sandal. It wasn't of no consequence, maybe, but she sounded desperate to not have it spelled out too plainly. He flipped his head back to shake his limp hair out of his eyes.
"I'll always come back."
This was a standing statement, neither expecting nor allowing room for comment. He looked at Lopper and smiled gratefully, the warmth genuine and undiminished by the situation and environment.
"Don't worry."

Lopper nods her head, bringing a hand suddenly up to her eyes to wipe at the tears it seems she just realizes are there. Inhaling deeply, she nods her head with a familiar girlish laugh. "I have never doubted you for a single moment," comes the reply of the pink-haired girl who still looks upon Ketha'al as if she is seeing him again for the first time. "You are one of my only allies."
