Down this endless route the sun is setting but yet it never does, and the clouds are always moving but they never seem to part. A transient river flows like time itself towards the unknown and fields of grass to your side are the same as those you always ran through as a child. The city in the distance is so far off that you know you'll never make it on a detour like this; you're okay with that though, you don't mind, because that's why you took the scenic route.

It was just a day like any other day, a day that she herself had lived time and time again for as long as she could remember. She always had taken that same route down the same path after school was over. It was a casual walk, a long walk, but it was a relaxing walk that took all of the stresses of the day away from her burdened mind. She had the time to think here, the time to be with herself and reconfigure her brain to be the way that it was when she awoke for the day instead of how screwed up it became by the end of it.
On that day she stood there facing the river, looking down into the water at the reflection that frowned back at her. A gentle and frail hand found its way from her side to her hair to move some of her bangs off to the side while her other hand was secured around the single back strap that hung on her left shoulder. What a day, she thought to herself, she figured she'd stay awhile to catch up with herself.

The sky projected a part of itself, rays of glimmering blue appeared not to walk above but on the road. She was walking in the opposite direction of the other girl, coming straight on as if they were two cars passing each other in different lanes. Her head was tilted backwards to watch the clouds, her spine arched in a way that said she'd become bridge. But she kept on walking like that, kept on moving and existing. There wasn't a care in the world. However, as much as she indulged in the heavens above, reality always preceded to exist. Elv felt her body run into someone else, it was merely a bump, nothing to cause the two to derail or fall over. She stopped moving when the two girl's shoulders touched, dropped her head and turned to place her gaze dead straight into the other female's.
“Excuse you,” she mused, “Or excuse me?”

Anathema's entire body turned gently with the bump from the energy the other female had placed against her body when she blindly ran into her. Anathema's face didn't change as she rotated all the way around to face the female, her own hair had fallen off to the side crookedly as her piercing red eyes stared endlessly into the deep blue waves in front of her. It took a moment for her to have returned to the land of the living, to register that the other girl that was there with her had spoken to her, that the other had just tried to cross her.
"Excuse you?"

Elv stared at the other female, the seconds drawling by. Conversation was one of her vices, she didn't know where to start, where to stop and how to engage. If this was a battle, there was no need for words, only two swords crossing. But a hint of a smile appeared on her face, the hues of the field's aura causing Elv's complexion seem that much fairer. The longer she stared at the stranger, the more she thought about the strawberry cheesecake that she had ate last night. Her tiny arms folded around her stomach, as if she was suppressing the hunger that was starting to ride on her back in the real world. It wasn't like the other female could hear her stomach growl. All that she could offer, was staring at the stranger in wonder, a look of innocence that looked on the verge of becoming defiance.
“I wasn't watching where I was going,” she said simply, turning her head a little. What was she supposed to say now? But her gaze never left the other girl's, not once.

Time did seem to pass between the two of them rather slow in that moment until, of course, Anathema had decided to shrug her shoulders at the matter and turn back to the reflection of the river she had lost herself in moments before the other female had distracted her.
It was getting late, she figured she should continue heading back to where she had come from at the end of this road. She didn't want to be out all night long where monsters and other such undesirable creatures roamed the streets and turned this scenic route into a long route through Hell itself. What was this girl doing here at this time? Did she have any head on her shoulders at all? Anathema thought that Elvire was as dense as they could come from that stupid look she had worn on her face the whole while.
"Quit looking at me like that."

The connection was severed when the other female turned her back to face Elv. There was no denying that was a way to cut someone off, and it was a rude one. The stranger didn't have to say anything more to establish that Elv's presence was not wanted or probably never desired in the first place. Her head turned down in a dejected way, registering now the verbal action the stranger left her with. How did this female even know that she was staring at her, what, with her back turned and all? Elv didn't respond, there was no reason to. They weren't comrades; no, they were strangers. And it came with the game. There were people who thrived on socializing and then those who established their ground as a longer. Elv could only assume the other female was the latter.
But Elv was the first. And she didn't want to be alone, yet it was hard when players were literally turning against her; away from her. “Okay... suit yourself,” Elv tried to muster up something to make it seem like she didn't care. Using the ground's texture, she moved her heels into it, to make the rocks move. Then she inched away slowly from the other girl, going in the direction she had normally intended.

Anathema slowly brought herself down into a crouched position before she had sat herself down on the grassy patch of land that separated the road from the river she had lost herself in. The female she had run into was blue like this body of water; Anathema wondered then if it was just a coincidence or something more? Was anything ever more than a coincidence in life? Anathema never figured that one out, not even in the end.
Her backpack slid off her shoulder and onto the ground next to her as one of her legs pulled back so that her knee was close to her chest. She didn't want to get comfortable, she didn't want to stay there a while, but for some reason she couldn't bring herself to move or do anything.

Elv didn't hear anything behind her. The stranger obviously wasn't interested in chasing after her, or looking for company. There was something really depressing about the thought, and Elv wondered why she even bothered to play the game. She didn't like to be alone, not when she suffered loneliness on a daily basis in the real world. But the coldness of the stranger left a pang in her that she couldn't define. She wanted to log out of the game, turn on some music and stare at her ceiling. What was better than sleep these days? Consciousness didn't provide any shelter for Elv. She turned her head to look over her shoulder, seeing the other female crouched.
Because she wasn't looking, she had lost her footing and felt her knees hit the gravel dirt hard. Elv winced in pain, reaching her arms out to stop herself from being hurt. But her left foot sank even further and she found the weight of her body falling down the slight slant of the ditch. Her body had rolled and stopped, just before hitting the water. There was dirt clinging to her white wardrobe, straw in her hair and red marks on her flesh. Elv slowly sat up, her bottom lip trembling.
She hated this fucking game.

Anathema didn't have the time to catch everything that had come of Elvire by the time she had looked over in her direction. All she had the time to witness was the girl rolling down the ditch into the river at an alarming rate of speed. It was painful to Anathema and, in that moment, she couldn't figure out why it was that it hurt her so much to see this girl befall such a tragic accident. It was obvious that she would be all right, Anathema shouldn't care or be worried, but for some reason seeing the other like that hurt her just as much as Elvire hurt in that instant.
In a hurried manner she pushed herself off the ground and onto her feet to move towards the other female, she had left her backpack there where she once sat as she had moved through space to reach the other girl. "Hey," she called out with one hand cupped at the side of her mouth to amplify her voice, "are you okay?" It was a question worth asking as she closed the gap between the two of them, having finally made it to the edge of the water in a direct path in front of Elvire and her soaked avatar.
"Do you need my help?"

Elv started to bring herself out of the water, moving on all fours so that she could crawl out onto the shallow, dirty bank. She had heard the stranger crawling out to her, but it was hard to hear, but the further she crawled out; she had found herself looking at a pair of feet. She turned her head upward, looking at the stranger. There was dirt smudged on her pale cheek, her pink lips parted in what looked like frustration; pursed together, trying to hold back a whimper. The water had an ethereal affect on her, the droplets of water seemed to glow under the skin, they even glimmered in the color of her hair. But the blinding texture of her avatar was cut short by the straw in her hair and the dirt stains all over the light material of her clothing. She wasn't okay and she wasn't sure what would help her. Probably logging out, Elv always insisted to herself, but never actually went through with it.
Being here was better than being there. Elv sat down on the back of her legs, feeling a bit humiliated. “No--” she started and swallowed, “I don't know. I'm okay.” There was hesitation in her voice and she looked back down, holding back herself from becoming an emotional wreck in front of the other female.

There was something about seeing that girl in the sight she was in that really tore up Anathema on the inside. It was really personal with her, for one reason or another, something that she just could not explain. There was no time to be worrying about it in that instant, not with the situation that she had in front of her and whom it was that was in distress. All that Anathema knew was that she had to do something and, so, she did.
A breath escaped her lips as she stepped into the water and move toward the female in stride even after the feeling of water clogging her boots made her want to scream in anger. At that moment she didn't care how wet or how dirty she got because her sole mission at that point in time was to get that girl out of the water, she wanted to make everything all right. Crouching down to the girl's level, making sure their eyes only met for a moment, she scooped the girl up into her arms as she stood back up onto her two feet.
Standing there for just a moment, making sure that she could carry the other girl's weight, it was apparent to her that the other one was weightless in her arms as if she weighed nothing at all. Anathema thought that was good because, of course, she had to move out of the water and up the bank to the road once more with Elvire in her arms. So, without a further waste of time, she did just that.

When the other female's arms came down around her, she lifted her head to catch the stranger's eyes for a brief moment. The connection was established again. However, she couldn't help but feel like a toddler for an instant. Being scooped up in someone else's arms was something she never experienced before. There was a strange feeling on her skin, feeling the support of another person's bones beneath her thighs and back. Elv couldn't help but wrap her arms around the other female's shoulders. But by doing this, the mud that was stained on her arms got on Anathema's shoulders. The water that soaked into her clothing started to drip with the movements.
The temperature was obvious, Anathema felt warmer. She couldn't help but stare at the other female's face for a very long time, paying all of her attention to Anathema. Her eyes were wide, staring—she refused to tear it away, despite knowing how rude it was. If Anathema would have left her alone, she would have sat there in her misery for a long time, churning into a self-loathing. But now she was being saved and she could only quietly whisper, “Thank you.”

Normally she would be upset that she was wet and dirty now, she would be upset that she had feel her soaked clothing against her skin and the dirt sink into her pores. Anathema just didn't care at that point because she was too distracted in helping the other female, she wanted to make sure that she was all right and that everything was really okay. She had heard the other's whisper of gratitude, a small smile appearing on her face; it wasn't normal for her to receive any form of gratitude in this life or the real world.
The two of them proceeded over to Anathema's backpack where Anathema herself had bent down and used one arm to pick up the backpack to place it in Elvire's lap. Slowly lifting herself back up into a standing position, having secured the arm she had used to grab the backpack back underneath the blue-haired girl, she turned the way that the other was walking and began to proceed in that direction. In her head she figured that this was all right, that she didn't have to go home then, that she could be with this girl and spend the night with her to make sure that everything was all right. Of course, she didn't know all of the things that would transpire from that event so she couldn't have really known what it was she had gotten herself into.

She didn't struggle in the other female's arms. When Anathema moved to her backpack and knelt down, the arms around the stranger's neck began to tighten. It was like she knew that Anathema wouldn't have put her down, and her face didn't look even surprised when the stranger's backpack fell into her lap. All she could do was keep her wide, blue eyes on the focal point of her attention. She had expected the stranger to start a conversation, to explain why she hadn't set her down. It wasn't like she was that hurt, just a little emotionally upset. Her character hardly took any damage from the fall, except her avatar, of course.
Anathema, despite their first run-in, had been the nicest character to her in awhile. She didn't know why she came off as unlikeable. Was it her character design? She paid attention when Anathema started to walk in the direction Elv was originally going down. So she leaned in to place her cheek along side the other female's to catch her ear, “How long do you plan on carrying me? Not that I mind, of course!”
