Hello everyone,
Somehow I really timed this right and happened to check this place literally a year since its last post. For a variety of reasons I'm kinda spooked by that timing admittedly. By the way, we also failed to celebrate our 15th bday earlier this year. Around May 2003 The World was created and 15.5 years later here I am posting this.
Anyway I hope you all are doing well. I have been reflecting on my life a lot recently. I will be 28 in a couple weeks and I feel this place becoming more of a distant memory. I'm sure it is the same for all of you. A fundamental piece of our hearts, but one that has wavering importance as we age.
We will always have a soft spot for The World. Some may even have some vague interest in reviving it again at some point. I disagree with a revival wholeheartedly. If you're anything like me you don't have a whole lot of pictures of you hanging out with friends in your teenage years. Instead everything is wrapped up in TW - RP posts, MSN/AIM IMs, and screenshots. For the community's sake I hope that this place remains a lighthouse for our childhood. A place to share these memories and to perhaps rekindle our friendships here and there.
Admittedly there is some fear that perhaps Proboards will someday nuke TW for lack of activity, but even that may be for the best. Eventually we will have to let this go entirely. This fragment of digital space's free ticket will run out.
I haven't had a real conversation with any of you in forever. This is a circumstance of growing up and that is just fine. Nowadays I'm probably too "normie" for most of you anyway - ha! Just know that I'm quietly watching you all grow up from the background and I'm so proud of all of you for your careers, relationships, and achievements. It is amazing to watch all you nerds grow up into adulthood.
On a couple occasions over the years I have seen TWers talking about other TWers and I find this strange. Don't get me wrong, there have been a couple truly despicable incidents in our time together and they haunt me more than I will ever want to discuss. I suppose I'm sensitive like that. However those incidents were extreme outliers. Outside of those outliers please embrace each other. If someone was annoying when you were 16 that's not a good reason not be friendly to them. We are all kindred spirits now. That will be the end of my preaching there.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. It was unintentionally heartfelt. See you all in another year or two.
